Packers DC Talks “Trainwreck” if Kyler Murray Shakes Loose
Prior to becoming the Packers DC, Jonathan Gannon was the HC of the Arizona Cardinals. As a result, Coach Gannon knows Kyler Murray well.
Green Bay’s defensive play caller spoke with the media earlier in the week. At the beginning of the presser, Gannon began with plenty of praise: “Yeah, Kyler Murray, really good player. He’s in a really good offense with some elite players. Obviously, I’ve got nothing but love and respect for K1. He’s competitive, he’s smart, he can make all the throws, and he can beat you with his legs, so big time challenge.”
In short, some good praise from the skipper who shared plenty of time with Murray in the desert. Later on, Gannon dug into the challenge of Murray, dropping an important word along the way.
Consider what Gannon then said: “Obviously, we know in his history what Kyler can do with his legs. It’s part of the challenge of us [in] Week 1 […] We gotta see how the game goes but that’s obviously a point of emphasis because I know first hand what this guy can do with his legs. And he can trainwreck the game real fast if you’re not coordinated the right way.”

Expectations are reasonably high for Murray in Minnesota.
As Gannon mentions, the Vikings’ new QB1 is going to lean on some excellent talent around him. Justin Jefferson is the most notable but the WR1 isn’t alone. All of Jordan Addison, Jordan Mason, Aaron Jones, Jauan Jennings, and T.J. Hockenson offer ample promise.
But then there’s that singular ability contained within Mr. Murray that’s exists independent of the guys around him. His acceleration is elite, leading to defenders aplenty needing extra tape for some broken ankles.
Something to consider, folks, is how the mere threat of Murray running can help somebody like Jefferson.

Generally speaking, teams like to devote a ton of attention toward ensuring Jefferson doesn’t get into too much green grass. That’s a reasonable strategy that’s going to become more difficult due to Murray’s ability to chew up yards as a runner.

Consider, for instance, a scenario in the red zone where Murray breaks free from the pocket. Does a linebacker and/or safety feel compelled to fly forward so that Murray doesn’t get too much breathing room? If so, does that lead to more open room to fit the pigskin into the receiver’s mitts?
Surely, the Packers DC is preparing for precisely the sort of issue that has been described above. But, to be sure, there’s a considerable difference between acknowledging the problem and then finding a great solution for the problem.
Kevin O’Connell understands that generating explosive gains is paramount to putting points on the board. Likewise, the skipper knows that getting the full 7 points from within a touchdown versus just 3 points from a field goal can make a huge difference.
Does Kyler Murray boast the key to explosion and the full 7 points? If so, then Green Bay could be working toward a trainwreck of a game.

Tom Dabernig, the trainer from Warrnambool, is looking forward to Oliveanotherday’s return to Caulfield for this Sunday’s Manikato Stakes. However, the trainer has acknowledged a minor concern ahead of the four-year-old’s first Group 1 start.
The gelding is heading into the $2 million race after his least successful outing, finishing fifth in the Group 2 Bobbie Lewis Quality at Flemington on September 12. The main reason identified for this performance was his initial exposure to racing down the straight.
Dabernig has suggested that an additional factor might have played a role, which Oliveanotherday could potentially face again this weekend in the 1200-metre weight-for-age event.
“I think it was just a case of straight first time and Good 3 track,” Dabernig said.
“I’m not totally blaming the Good 3, but I’m sure that he’s best runs for me have been on softer going.”
He elaborated, “He’s been very good here at Caulfield, so I’m just hoping that back at Caulfield he’ll accelerate off the bend and third-up be better than he was second-up.”
“He was only beaten 1.6 lengths and the winner came from the inside, the horses in the centre didn’t figure too much, so it might have been a combination of things.”
“But, I must admit, a Good 3 track would be my concern.”
Oliveanotherday has an impressive record of six wins from his nine career starts, with two of these victories occurring on Good 4 tracks. The Bobbie Lewis Quality was his inaugural race on a Good 3 surface.
Caulfield, a track where Oliveanotherday has won twice on the main course and once on the Heath track, was upgraded to a Good 3 during last Saturday’s race meeting. Dabernig is hoping for the predicted light showers on Saturday to materialise, following warm temperatures on Thursday and Friday.
Although disappointed that Oliveanotherday’s five-race winning streak was halted at Flemington, Dabernig is optimistic that the experience against seasoned sprinters will benefit him prior to facing established Group 1 competitors, including Beiwacht, Jimmysstar, and Giga Kick this weekend.
“The winner of that race has win six times down the straight and they’re all six and seven-year-olds and we’re only a four-year-old and only lightly-raced,” Dabernig stated.
“So, we were inexperienced and there were all those other factors there, so when you reflect on it all, there were probably reasons (for the result).”
The final line-up for the Manikato Stakes, as well as other races on the program such as Pride Of Jenni’s attempt for a third successive win in the Group 2 Feehan Stakes, will be confirmed on Wednesday morning. Consider the available Australian betting sites for the upcoming racing action.
Week Two in the NFL brought plenty of excitement.
Eight games this week were decided by one score or less.
With the Rams’ win on Monday Night, 24 of the 32 teams in the league are 1-1 or better.
Here are my picks for the best NFL performances by former players from the region.
1. Josh Allen, QB, Bills/Wyoming
Allen accounted for five total touchdowns in the Bills’ Thursday night win over Detroit.
The former Wyoming star threw for 248 yards and three touchdowns while adding 69 yards on the ground and a pair of scores.
2. Devin Lloyd, LB, Panthers/Utah
The former Ute had a stellar performance as the Panthers dominated the Falcons.
In the 34-3 win, Lloyd recorded nine tackles, one sack, three total stops for loss, three passes defended, and two interceptions.
Lloyd is the fifth linebacker with a sack and two interceptions, including an interception returned for a touchdown, in a game since 1982.
3. Amon-Ra St. Brown, WR, Lions/USC
The Lions came up short in Buffalo, but the former Trojan came up big in the primetime affair.
The former USC star caught nine passes for 142 yards and found the end zone twice. It was his fourth straight regular-season game with at least eight receptions.
It was also his second consecutive game with two scores.
4. Jared Goff, QB, Lions/Cal
Goff did all he could to keep up with Josh Allen and the Bills but ultimately came up short.
In the TNF loss, the former Cal QB completed 68.4% of his passes for 327 yards and four passing TDs.
That effort earned him a QB rating of 130.5, his highest rating in a game since week 12 of last season.
5. Dalton Kinkaid, TE, Bills/Utah
The former Ute is quickly becoming the favorite target of Josh Allen this season.
Coming off a career high in yardage a week ago, he added another 95-yard night on Thursday.
He hauled in seven passes on the night, finding the end zone one time.
6. Davante Adams, WR, Rams/Fresno State
The 14th career season for the former Bulldog may not have started great in Australia, but once he got back to North America, he took off.
He had a fantastic second week of the season on Monday Night against the Giants, catching five passes for 145 yards and a TD in the Rams’ win.
7. Christian Elliss, LB, Patriots/Idaho
The former Idaho Vandal had a big game in Week 2 as the Patriots shut down the Steelers.
Elliss finished the game with 12 tackles and had a sack and a forced fumble.
The 12 total stops were the second most of his career and the most since Week 17 of the 2024 season when he collected 13 tackles.
8. Trey McBride, TE, Cardinals/Colorado State
McBride had eight catches for 41 yards and a touchdown against Seattle.
The former CSU star had nine receptions for 95 yards and a touchdown in Week 1.
He is now the fifth tight end in NFL history with at least eight receptions in each of his team’s first two games of a season.
9. Dalton Schultz, TE, Texans/Stanford
The Texans fell to the Bengals in week two, but the TE out of Stanford had a career day.
Schultz posted career highs in both receptions, with 12, and receiving yardage with 140 in the game.
It was just the second time in his nine-year career that he topped 100 yards in a game.
11. Tetairoa McMillan, WR, Panthers/Arizona
For the third time in his career, the former Arizona WR went over 100 receiving yards.
McMillan caught five passes for 101 yards as the Panthers have scored 30+ points in their first two games of a season for the first time ever.
12. Denzel Boston, WR, Browns/Washington
The rookie out of Washington scored his first NFL TD in the Browns’ win over Tampa Bay.
Boston ended the day as the leading receiver for Cleveland, catching seven passes for 95 yards along with the TD.
13. Christian McCaffrey, RB, 49ers/Stanford
The All-Pro out of Stanford continues to reach milestones.
On Sunday, he found the end zone twice in the win over the Dolphins. The two scores give him 100 for his career in 114 games, the fourth fastest to the 100 TD mark in NFL history.
His scores are evenly split between San Francisco and Carolina become just the third player in NFL history with at least 50 TDs with two teams, joining Randy Moss and Marshall Faulk.

Former champion Jon Jones has taken responsibility for Gable Steveson leaving the cage before his loss was announced at UFC 331.
On Saturday, Steveson was knocked out by seismic underdog Sean Sharaf in 12 seconds, in a scene that sent the Los Angeles crowd into raptures.
The result was the first loss of Steveson’s young career – a career that has brought major expectations, due to the American’s Olympic gold medal in wrestling.
Expectations around Steveson, 26, were only heightened when he began training with his friend Jones, one of the most controversial personalities in UFC history.
And there was controversy on Saturday, when Steveson and Jones left the cage and ringside area before their result was announced.
Jones, 39, has now moved to address the matter, writing on social media: “I’ve seen some reports on line and I really wanted to clear the air.
“It was my decision to take Gable straight to the back after the fight. Honestly it was the first time in this situation for me and my instant reaction was to get my friend to the back to make sure he was ok.
“Gable’s work ethic and will to win is there and I stand by him and believe he will go on to be one of the best heavyweights in the UFC. He will be back I’m sure of it.”
Steveson was 4-0 prior to UFC 331, with four first-round knockouts to his name. However, he had also shown himself to be raw, and Sharaf exposed his inexperience.
Sharaf, a former US marine, was emotional in the cage after his win, and he told reporters afterwards: “Yeah, I saw him leaving, but I was thinking about this before the fight.
“I was 4-0, I was undefeated when I had my first loss in the UFC, and he just had his first loss. It makes you better; you’re going to take a look back and you can’t underestimate people. You can’t think you’re untouchable and you’re just going to run through people.
“I think he’s going to go back, he’s going to get better. He’s got a hell of a lot of talent, so I’m sure you guys see him again.
“I told you the gameplan was hit, don’t get hit, leave with a bag full of cash. Everyone thought I was joking, but no, I’m just grateful. I’m so grateful.
“I prayed so hard, I believed in myself, my team believed in me, and I’m just so happy. I’m so happy for this moment.
“I was just treating this like every other fight. I don’t put anyone on a pedestal. He has two hands, two legs, and he bleeds red, so I guess I shocked the world, but I haven’t felt any different. I’m definitely getting more interviews, that’s for sure, but that’s about it.”
India continued their brilliant run at the Asian Games 2026, being held in Aichi-Nagoya, on Tuesday as they added their first gold medal of the edition, courtesy of Harmanpreet Kaur-led India’s women’s cricket team, who beat Sri Lanka in the gold medal match by 147 runs to retain their title as defending champions.
The gold medal from cricket took India’s total medal count to 7, with 5 of those medals (4 silver and 1 bronze) coming from shooting. One remaining medal came from MMA, as Suchika Tariya secured the bronze medal in the women’s 60kg event.
India also confirmed at least one bronze medal on Tuesday as India’s men’s badminton team beat Japan 3-0 to book their place in the men’s team event semifinal round.
India currently have 7 medals to their name (1 gold, 4 silver and 2 bronze medals) and are currently placed eighth in the overall points table.

Indian men’s kabaddi team
The Indian men’s kabaddi team began its title defence at the Asian Games with a resounding 49-24 win over hosts Japan in their opening Group fixture here on Monday.
India dominated from the outset, establishing a 31-9 lead by half-time as Ayan Lohchab and Devank Dalal combined effectively in the raiding department at the Tokai Citizens Gymnasium.
The defending champions then added 18 more points in the second half.
India finished with 36 out points, eight all-out points and two super-tackle points.
India are placed in Group A alongside Japan, South Korea, Chinese Taipei and Bangladesh.
They will face South Korea in their next match on Tuesday.
The women’s team, also defending champions, will begin its campaign against Bangladesh later on Monday.

Man United’s summer transfer window ended with a whimper but there are still options to provide a short-term fix for Michael Carrick
We are five games into the Premier League season and already, Manchester United are seeing the consequences of their transfer window coming back to bite them. The focus this summer was on rebuilding the midfield. Casemiro left on a free transfer leaving United with Kobbie Mainoo and Manuel Ugarte to play in the centre.
Even before his serious injury, Ugarte was not seen as part of the Old Trafford plans, so serious investment was needed. To their credit, United managed to bolster their midfield. Andrey Santos, Youri Tielemans and Carlos Baleba all arrived to provide Michael Carrick with options.
However, that is where the investment ended. A left-back was the next priority, but despite a last-minute attempt to sign Rayan Ait-Nouri, that position remains unstrengthened. Also lost in the midfield focus was the centre-forward role. United were looking to offload Joshua Zirkzee, but with time running out to sign a replacement, the Dutchman remains.
While Luke Shaw’s recent absence has been a problem, he at least is back and starting matches. On the other hand, Benjamin Sesko missed the entirety of pre-season with a shin injury sustained in May. Since then, he has yet to complete 90 minutes and has pulled out of international duty with Slovenia as he focuses on recovery.
In the meantime, United have been putting square pegs in round holes. Amad’s injury has meant Bryan Mbeumo is not leading the line, so Matheus Cunha has filled in at centre-forward. That has not worked.
With Zirkzee not trusted, Mbeumo needed on the right and Cunha struggling up top, United clearly need reinforcements – whether that’s in January or, potentially, before. So with this in mind, MEN Sport has taken a look at three free agents that United could sign right now, to strengthen their attack.
Karim Benzema
Of course, Benzema is not the player he once was – United would not be signing a Ballon d’Or candidate. But the French striker could still add quality to this team.
Benzema left Al Hilal at the end of August. Last season, he scored nine goals in 10 appearances for the Saudi Pro League club. He scored in one of his two appearances this year too, before having his deal with the club terminated, after they replaced him with Ollie Watkins.
There is an issue for United if they wished to sign Benzema, beyond his age. The 38-year-old is contracted to the Saudi Pro League until 2030 in what is described as an ‘ambassadorial role’. In this role, the Saudi league holds Benzema’s image rights.
According to L’Equipe, Lyon were hoping to bring Benzema in and the forward was willing to forego his salary to play for them again. However, as he is keen to honour his ambassador role, negotiations to reach an agreement on his image rights, did not begin.
This is a major sticking point for United, but the lure of the Premier League could make Benzema change his mind.
Mauro Icardi
Bizarrely, Icardi has not been picked up yet. The 33-year-old forward scored 14 goals for Galatasaray last season, but left the club at the end of his contract.
Icardi’s agent has ruled out a move to Argentina and the suggestion is that he wants to keep playing in Europe. This week Tottenham, who are in a tougher position than United, were linked with the forward. However, reports have suggested that he is not on their radar.
This deal makes more sense than the Benzema approach. Icardi is at a better age, has done well in Europe recently and clearly still fancies a shot at a top club.
The problem for United would be that he has missed pre-season. But if the Reds were to move quickly, they could put him through his paces during this three-week international break and get him up to speed for the return of the Premier League in October.
Joselu
The former Stoke City and Newcastle man has come a long way since his first stint in the Premier League. Joselu did well to return to Real Madrid in 2023, after impressing for Espanyol. He scored 17 goals in the 2023/24 season before joining Qatari side Al-Gharafa, the following year.
He left the Middle Eastern club in the summer and has since been linked with a return to the Bundesliga. Unlike Icardi, the 36-year-old has a greater physical presence, and is more suited to leading the line when Sesko is absent.
Like all of these selections, Joselu is not the striker United fans would have dreamt of signing in the summer. However, their options are limited.
The Reds need a recognised centre-forward who can provide competition and cover, to Sesko. They can’t continue with this strikerless system because it is just not working.
Matheus Cunha produced the goal that saved Manchester United from three straight defeats, but the problems for the Reds’ forward are glaringly obvious
Matheus Cunha won’t have been expecting a hero’s reception after scoring Manchester United’s all-important equaliser against Fulham. It was another underwhelming result for the Reds, this time against a side in worse form than themselves. Cunha’s equaliser saved United from even more harsh scrutiny.
After failing to carve out enough chances in the defeat to Manchester City last weekend, it seemed United were given the instruction to shoot on sight. The Reds peppered shots towards goal – a whopping 17 in the first half and 12 more in the second. However, those efforts were, by in large, comfortable for Bernd Leno to deal with. According to Opta, United managed just a 1.06 xG in the first half from their 17 shots. On the other hand Fulham, who only had nine shots, managed a superior 1.49 xG.
United’s xG was better than Fulham’s in the second period as the game tightened up, but 0.54 xG is a poor showing. Despite their xG being so low, the Reds’ forwards were getting into the box to force their shots. As shown in purple on the graphic below:
However there was one exception. Cunha managed just three shots in the game for a total xG of 0.05. All of his shots were outside the area, cutting in from the left. But for a fortunate deflection, the Brazilian forward would not have troubled the scorers.
You had to feel for Cunha though. He is not a centre-forward and being forced to lead the line for United is a struggle. You also have to feel sympathy for Michael Carrick too. Had a bit of luck fallen their way, he would have been able to start Benjamin Sesko at Craven Cottage.
Unfortunately for United, Sesko did not travel to London after suffering some pain in his shin. On Monday morning, United assessed the issue and ultimately he withdrew from international duty with Slovenia.
The problem for United is they haven’t been hit by a massive injury crisis which has forced them to play Cunha out of position.
This is a case of one injured player forcing United to put square pegs in round holes. With each passing game that Sesko misses, it begs the question as to why United did not sign a striker.
Joshua Zirkzee is clearly not trusted to lead the line. Bryan Mbeumo did play up front in pre-season, but has instead been picked on the right while Amad is injured – despite Shea Lacey providing some positive performances this season.
Heading into the international break, it is becoming harder and harder to ignore the issues of the transfer window. United did not add enough depth to their squad to ensure they could deal with run of the mill injuries.
Cunha is being forced to play centre-forward in Sesko’s absence but it is clearly not his position. He was most effective on the left last season and was rarely used as the lead striker. But due to one or two injuries, United’s hand has been forced.
Carrick will be hoping Sesko’s injury issue is not too serious and that he will be able to return to the team the other side of the break. If not, it could be another slog ahead for Cunha up top.

Skinner made 31 saves while playing the whole game for the Jets, as fans serendaded him with “Stuuuu” chants throughout the game.
“Honestly, just the love from the fans, especially at the beginning there before the anthem, that felt fantastic. The ‘Stu’ chants around a couple saves, those always feel really good,” Skinner said after the game, according to NHL.com. “You can tell how much the fans love it here, how much they love their hockey, how much they love their players.”
Gabriel Vilardi, Cole Perfetti and Dylan DeMelo scored for the Jets in the win. Georgii Merkulov broke Skinner’s shutout with a goal with just over five minutes to play in the third period.
With the win, the Jets improved to 1-1-0 in the pre-season with games against the Oilers on Tuesday and against the Avalanche on Friday to come.
